The final car from Alpina as an independent company is also its most powerful. The B8 GT, revealed this week, delivers 624 horsepower and will be limited to 99 units.
BMW is absorbing Alpina, ending a 60-year run as a separate entity. The B8 GT honors founder Burkard Bovensiepen, who launched the company in 1965.
Power and weight
The B8 GT uses the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé as its foundation, equipped with a modified 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. The engine produces 624 horsepower and 626 pound-feet of torque—an increase of 13 horsepower and 36 pound-feet over the standard BMW version. These gains come from flow-optimized airboxes and updated engine management.
The BMW M5 generates 717 horsepower, but its hybrid setup adds 250 kilograms. Alpina’s model weighs 2,175 kilograms, making it lighter though still heavy. Acceleration from 0-62 mph takes 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 205 mph.
Engineers refined the B8 GT’s throttle response and drivability across all driving modes. A sports exhaust system ensures a distinctive sound.
Suspension and styling
Alpina has long positioned its vehicles between BMW’s standard models and the M division—more comfortable on rough roads yet still capable. The B8 GT breaks from that tradition with a stiffer setup for sharper body control. A dome-bulkhead strut reinforces the front end, improving steering precision.

Suspension and steering components underwent extensive testing. Three driving modes—Comfort, Sport, and Sport+—offer distinct handling characteristics. Visually, the car stands out with 21-inch wheels and bright blue brake calipers. Subtle revisions to the front and rear bumpers, along with carbon canards, give it a more aggressive appearance.
Only 20 of the 99 cars will feature a bi-color scheme, pairing Alpina Blue or Alpina Green II with Black Sapphire paint. Inside, the steering wheel bears the Alpina badge, while a closer look reveals a Burkard Bovensiepen signature near the gear selector, a numbered plaque, and branding on the rotary controller. The cabin blends aluminum and Alcantara for a sporty yet refined feel.
Pricing in Germany starts at £189,702, with UK buyers facing a higher cost.
BMW’s full integration of Alpina’s operations means future models will likely be developed under direct oversight. The B8 GT remains fast, exclusive, and distinctly Alpina for now.
Once all 99 units are built, production will end, closing a chapter for the tuner.
