The new Denza Z, an electric supercar from BYD’s premium brand, made its first public appearance at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed. It launched in three versions: a coupe, a Spider convertible, and a track-focused Racing variant. All share a tri-motor setup delivering 1,579bhp and 929lb ft of torque, matched with a 76kWh blade battery.
Design blends supercar cues with hidden tech
The Z’s exterior, shaped by former Audi and Lamborghini designer Wolfgang Egger, combines elements from the Lotus Emira, McLaren 750S, and Maserati MCPura. The coupe keeps a restrained look, featuring a speed-activated rear wing and an illuminated badge. The Racing version adds a carbon-fiber splitter, extra vents, and a large adjustable wing—boosting e-motor cooling by 50% and brake cooling by 32%.
The cabin emphasizes driver engagement, with a steering wheel loaded with buttons and paddles. A built-in fridge in the center console stands out as a unique addition. Rear seats fold flat, though they work best for small children or extra luggage.
Performance figures push supercar boundaries
The coupe sprints from 0-62mph in 2.25 seconds, reaches a top speed of 186mph, and offers a 257-mile range.

The Z is also equipped with features like Boost mode, activated by a red button on the steering wheel, which increases torque by 30 per cent for 20 seconds. Track mode, marked by a checkered flag, adjusts the dials to display driving data and GPS positioning, with lap data exportable via external storage.
Denza aims to fill the gap between BYD’s mainstream models and Yangwang’s high-end offerings. “We’re not chasing ultra-luxury status,” said product head Daniel Cabanillas Barea. “Our goal is to compete with established German brands.” The Z rides on BYD’s E3 platform, which will also support future vehicles like the BAO 5 4×4 and the D9 luxury MPV.
European deliveries start later this summer, with pricing beginning at £142,900.
The Z’s power matches hypercars like the Rimac Nevera, yet its four-seat layout and practical features—such as the fridge and foldable seats—suggest a different approach to luxury. This combination of track capability and daily usability sets it apart in the electric supercar segment.
