Mercedes Unveils New Super Sedan Concept

Mercedes-AMG has revealed the GT XX, an electric concept previewing the next-generation AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. The vehicle offers a glimpse into the brand’s high-performance future with 1,340 horsepower from a tri-motor setup and a design that deviates from traditional Mercedes aesthetics.

Powertrain and Platform

The GT XX rides on the upcoming AMG.EA architecture, a dedicated EV platform using aluminum, steel, and composite materials. Power comes from three axial flux motors—one at the front and two at the rear—producing over 1,341 horsepower. The setup includes fully variable all-wheel drive and electric torque vectoring for straight-line speed. Mercedes states the top speed exceeds 223 mph.

Supporting this powertrain is a new silicon-enhanced battery pack featuring cylindrical cells and a coolant system that surrounds each unit individually. Mercedes claims the battery achieves 300 Wh/kg of energy density and can add nearly 250 miles of range in five minutes. Recharging uses prototype 850 kW technology developed with Alpitronic.

This approach allows for a lower center of gravity and less parasitic weight, which is essential for a vehicle targeting a top speed north of 223 mph. They manage to keep things relatively light by integrating the thermal management directly into the cell structure.

Exterior and Interior Design

The exterior features a massive illuminated grille at the front, integrating auxiliary lighting and active aero elements. Split-level headlights and aggressive canards emphasize motorsport inspiration. The rear includes six circular taillights and an illuminated panel capable of displaying text and animations.

Active aero surfaces include a deployable airbrake and underbody diffusers to optimize downforce. Design details include the “Sunset Beam” orange finish, with side skirts embedded in luminescent paint that glows under alternating current. The 21-inch wheels feature active vanes that adjust based on thermal or aerodynamic needs.

Inside, the cabin resembles a high-end racing simulator rather than a traditional luxury vehicle. A 14-inch infotainment screen and 10.25-inch digital cluster sit alongside a steering wheel patterned after the AMG One. The seats, console, and exposed carbon-fiber roof focus on weight savings, while the floor covering is made entirely from recycled materials.

While the GT XX is currently a concept, Mercedes has confirmed that the motors and battery architecture will enter production next year. They will debut first in the electric AMG GT 4-Door. It remains to be seen how much of the concept’s radical exterior and experimental cabin will carry through to the final production model.
