Geely plans to launch vehicles in Canadian showrooms by 2027 as part of its international expansion.

China’s Geely Auto Group has officially announced its expansion into Canada, with plans to establish a retail and service network ahead of vehicle availability in showrooms by 2027. Geely confirmed it has already assembled a Canadian team to support this long-term market entry. “Canada represents an important next step in Geely Auto’s international growth,” said Bryan Wu, MD of Geely Auto Canada, in a press release.“We are entering this market with a long-term commitment, bringing our global technology and engineering capabilities to Canadian drivers while building strong local partnerships and the support customers need to feel confident in choosing Geely.”

Last year, Geely Auto Group sold more than 3.02 million vehicles globally, including nearly 1.69 million new-energy vehicles. Geely Auto vehicles are currently on the road in more than 100 countries and regions worldwide. Of course, Geely has been selling vehicles in Canada for some time, under its Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus brands. But the coming incursion is expected to bring in Geely brands not sold in this country to date. The massive Hangzhou-based automaker’s large stable includes those aforementioned familiar brands, along with less recognizable badges like Galaxy, Zeekr, Lynk & Co, Proton, and Radar Auto.

And while the coming Chinese wave of vehicles set to wash ashore in the coming months and years, in addition to Geely, Chinese automakers BYD, Chery and Dongfeng are in the process of setting up Canadian ops, are expected to be all-electrics, Geely has a wide assortment of hybrids and plug-in hybrids that could well suit the domestic market. (For example, Radar makes a mid-size PHEV pickup truck that seems ideally suited for Canada.)

Geely recently trademarked the “Zeekr” name for the Canadian market; and after driving the 2026 Galaxy Geome EX2 in China during a trip to the Beijing Auto Show, we speculated that the inexpensive, all-electric hatchback could be a big seller in Vancouver and Montreal. Geely has set up a Canadian website, www.geely.ca, that it says will keep consumers informed in the coming months about developments as the company gets closer to offering vehicles for sale.
