2027 Honda Vezel features darkened inner headlight housings for a sportier appearance.

The 2027 Honda Vezel, a subcompact crossover popular in Japan, receives a mid-lifecycle update for the new model year, bringing fresh styling tweaks and minor interior enhancements. The current generation, which debuted in 2021 and was refreshed in 2024, now offers a more aggressive aesthetic alongside practical upgrades for rear passengers. Exterior changes remain subtle but notable. The entire lineup features darkened inner headlight housings for a sportier appearance. Certain trims, including the e:HEV Z and Play Package, receive body-colored plastic cladding on bumpers and wheel arches. A new Black Sport Style kit, replacing previous Urban, Sports, Casual, and Active Styles, adds a blacked-out grille with a unique pattern, black mirror caps, a rear spoiler, and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Front and rear bumper extensions with black chrome inserts complete the aggressive look. Honda confirms the Vezel RS, which offers a sport-tuned suspension and sharper styling, will return later this year. Current buyers can choose from four trims: Gasoline G, e:HEV X, e:HEV Z, and Play Package. The RS trim’s reintroduction suggests Honda is responding to demand for performance-oriented variants within the subcompact segment. Inside, the Vezel retains its 7-inch digital instrument cluster and 9-inch infotainment screen but gains new standard features. Rear climate vents and dual USB-C ports are now included across all trims. The e:HEV X trim adds heated front seats, while the Play Package enhances luxury with a dual-pane panoramic roof, multi-view camera system, and 10-speaker audio.

These updates enhance convenience and comfort without altering the core cabin layout. Under the hood, the Vezel offers no mechanical changes. Powertrains remain the 1.5-liter gasoline engine and 1.5-liter self-charging hybrid system, both mated to CVT transmissions. The gasoline variant is exclusively available with all-wheel drive, while the e:HEV can be had with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. This consistency ensures familiar performance and efficiency for buyers. Pricing stays competitive despite added features. The base Gasoline G 4WD starts at ¥2,777,500 ($17,700), while the top-tier e:HEV Z Play Package with all-wheel drive reaches ¥3,885,200 ($24,700). Honda’s decision to maintain entry-level affordability could help sustain sales momentum in Japan’s competitive subcompact market. The update’s rollout remains Japan-exclusive for now.

Honda has not confirmed similar changes for the global-spec HR-V, sold in Europe and Asia. North American markets continue to rely on the Civic-based HR-V, with no smaller SUVs planned in the near term. However, Honda hasn’t ruled out reviving the Fit hatchback, which could signal renewed interest in compact models if demand shifts.

The 2027 Vezel’s updates reflect Honda’s strategy of incremental refinement rather than radical redesign. With no engine changes and a focus on styling and convenience, the model aims to retain its position as a practical yet engaging option in Japan’s crowded subcompact segment. The return of the RS trim later this year may further solidify its appeal to enthusiasts seeking more dynamic driving characteristics without sacrificing efficiency.
