Xpeng has unveiled its flagship G9L SUV in battery-electric and range-extender configurations at the Paris Motor Show. The G9L is priced from €74,600 in Germany and between €74,990 and €75,990 in other European markets, making it cheaper than a new BMW X5.

The G9L will be sold in 64 separate markets, including Australia and New Zealand, and will be manufactured at Xpeng’s plant in China and Magna Steyr’s factory in Austria. The range-extender version uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four with a powerful electric motor and a 63-kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery.

G9L Specifications

Xpeng claims the G9L EREV can travel up to 270 miles on electric power alone and has a combined driving range of 996 miles on the CLTC cycle. The powertrain includes regenerative braking to maximize efficiency and intelligently adapts to the driving scenario.

The G9L EREV can hit 62 mph in 5.4 seconds, with combined power sitting at 577 horsepower and 513 pound-feet of torque. The engine never drives the wheels and only generates electricity, allowing the G9L EREV to accelerate smoothly and instantly like a traditional EV.

Electric Versions

Two all-electric versions have been announced alongside the EREV, with base models using a 91.9-kWh battery and others available with a 110-kWh pack. The most powerful version will use a pair of electric motors with 577 hp and 513 lb-ft of torque.

This version will have a range of 344 miles on the WLTC cycle, but the G9L supports DC charging speeds of up to 540 kW, allowing the battery to be charged from 10 to 80% in under 12 minutes.

Xpeng has added advanced self-driving technology to the G9L, including city and highway assisted driving, navigation-based assisted driving, and intelligent hands-free lane changes. The G9L’s cabin prioritizes luxury and comfort, with Nappa leather seats and a 16-point massage function.

The second row will be available with either a bench seat or captain’s chairs, all trimmed in the same Nappa leather as the front. The third row includes heated seats and a 50:50 split folding function. Other highlights include a 17.3-inch central infotainment display and an 88-inch augmented reality head-up display.
