The Chevrolet Corvette has long been a symbol of American performance cars. A comparison between the 2007 and 2027 models reveals surprising insights into how inflation affects car pricing.

The 2007 C6 Corvette, introduced in 2004, featured a 6.0L LS2 V8 engine producing 400 horsepower. Its high-performance variant, the Z06, boasted a 7.0L LS7 V8 with 505 horsepower. The C6 debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2004 and entered production that summer as a 2005 model, offering both coupe and convertible versions. The Z06, introduced in 2006, was exclusively a manual coupe, further cementing its performance-focused identity.

2007 Corvette Pricing

The base 2007 Corvette coupe cost $44,995, including destination fees. Adjusted for inflation, this equates to $73,120 in current values. The convertible version was priced at $52,910, or $85,980 adjusted. Upgrading to a six-speed automatic transmission added $1,250 ($2,030 adjusted). The Z06 started at $70,000, which is $113,750 in today’s money. These figures, based on data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, highlight the impact of inflation on perceived affordability.

2027 Corvette: A New Era

The 2027 Corvette marks a significant evolution with its mid-engined design, introduced in the C8 generation. The C8 Vette ushered in this revolutionary layout, and although the initial 2020 lineup was limited to the basic Stingray, six years on there are six different Corvettes, with five distinct powertrains, offering more choices than ever.

The base 2027 Corvette coupe is priced at $73,795, nearly identical to the inflation-adjusted 2007 model. This includes a standard eight-speed dual-clutch automatic and a $2,495 destination fee. The convertible, at $80,795, is actually $5,185 cheaper than its 2007 counterpart. The Stingray and the new $88,795 Grand Sport, which out-grips the Z06, also receive a fresh 6.7L V8 engine for 2027, producing 535 hp.

For enthusiasts, the Z06 now starts at $121,695, a notable increase from the 2007 version. It features a naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 delivering 670 hp. The availability of a convertible Z06, priced at $128,695, is another significant shift between the generations. The ZR1, with twin turbochargers added to the Z06’s flat-plane crank V8, offers a staggering 1,064 hp for $197,495 as a coupe or $207,495 as a convertible. At the pinnacle, the ZR1X, an all-wheel-drive Corvette with two front electric motors boosting output to 1,250 hp, starts at $227,695, which is about $200,000 more than a nice used C6.
