Hyundai Australia adds BLK Editions to its lineup, offering dark-themed versions of the Kona compact SUV and the Tucson midsize SUV. The Tucson model marks a first for Australia, being the inaugural passenger car imported from Vietnam.
Pricing and Availability
The Kona BLK Edition starts at $42,600 plus on-road costs, $2,650 above the standard Elite hybrid. It is already in showrooms. The Tucson BLK Edition is listed at $51,000 plus on-road charges, $2,650 over the Elite HEV 2WD price, with deliveries expected this month.
Hyundai has limited the Tucson run to 750 units; no production cap was disclosed for the Kona. Both variants are built on the Elite hybrid platform and are offered only with front-wheel drive.
Vietnam Sourcing and Design
The new Tucson will be sourced from Hyundai’s plant in Vietnam, a facility that normally supplies CKD kits for regional markets. Vietnam becomes the 34th country to provide a vehicle sold in Australia and the first to benefit from the Australia-Vietnam free-trade agreement on automobiles. All other variants, including the next-generation model slated for mid-2027, remain produced in Korea.
Exterior styling follows the “black” theme. The Kona receives 18-inch black alloy wheels, black-tinted window surrounds, a shadow-grey front bumper garnish and silver skid plates. It upgrades to 19-inch black alloys and matching black bumper accents.
Specs and Warranty
Inside, the Kona adds an eight-speaker Bose audio system, satellite navigation and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. It also receives the Bose sound package. Colour choices are limited to shades that complement the dark trim; Kona buyers can select Atlas White at no extra charge, while other hues cost $595. Tucson buyers pay $750 for premium paint options.
Powertrains stay unchanged. The Kona’s 1.6-litre petrol-electric unit delivers 104 kW and 265 Nm while consuming 3.9 L/100 km. Its turbocharged 1.6 hybrid produces 172 kW and 367 Nm with a fuel use of 5.3 L/100 km.
Gavin Donaldson, Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s chief operating officer, said the BLK Editions provide “a more distinctive and contemporary dark edge” to the brand’s most popular SUVs.
Hyundai backs its vehicles with a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and an eight-year/160,000 km guarantee on high-voltage batteries. The launch follows a wave of black-themed editions in the Australian market, including versions from Mitsubishi, Zeekr and Cupra, and more than a dozen black editions have appeared this year, such as the Mitsubishi Outlander LS Black Edition, Zeekr 7X Black Special Edition and Cupra Terramar Tribe Edition Black.
